Mhani Gingi – when translated into English from Shangaan – stands for a caring industrious woman who is always looking for lasting solutions to social problems. Mhani Gingi is a Non-Governmental Organization that strives to provide innovative business solutions which are sustainable and profitable and contribute towards alleviating poverty in South Africa.
The Mhani Gingi network was established in 2006 by founding director Lillian Masebenza. After five years, over 500 women have been through Mhani Gingi’s program, and the success stories are many. Even though resources are scarce, with its philosophy of “using what you have to attract what you need”, the organisation is maximizing its impact across the Western Cape and small parts of the Northern Province.
Mhani Gingi provides:
- Entrepreneurial training (both business and technical skills)
- Skills development through mentorship
- Access to specialist advisors and technical experts
- Education and care for vulnerable groups
- Access to markets, advertising and funding
Mhani Gingi uses the Power of the Collective to maximize networking, and tailor-make integrated skills development training according to the collective strengths and skills of the members. The main focus is currently in the Western Cape, primarily in the larger townships surrounding Cape Town.
